Colorado snowy mountain landscape — Ancient Futures Design inspiration

Creativity is more than just being different…

Making the simple awesomely simple —
that's creativity.

About Ancient Futures Design

From the snowy mountains of Japan to the modern Southwestern home, shoji style speaks to me because it blends delicacy with durability, minimalism with fine woodworking.

For the modern eye, I update this tradition with hard or soft woods and specialty rice papers. Many designs are customizable to blend in with your existing space.

Robbie Mandel migrated from the East Coast to New Mexico many years ago. In 2014, he moved to Boulder and started Ancient Futures Design. He currently lives in Lyons and enjoys spending his time playing music outside of work.

I draw inspiration from many Asian sources but also from Mission architecture, historic Greene & Greene houses, and modern woodworking masters such as Thomas Moser, Wendell Castle and Sam Maloof. A fine art attitude toward woodworking and design is what these Eastern & Western masters share. Simple, versatile designs brought to life with exquisite detail.
